Tournament Rankings

Rankings provide structure to the competitive kendo landscape. They offer a clear view of performance and make it easier to follow competitive progression over time.

How Rankings Are Calculated

Rankings are based exclusively on official team event results from the World Kendo Championships.

Each tournament awards points based on final placement. More recent results carry greater weight, while older results gradually lose influence through a structured decay system. Once a tournament falls outside the active ranking window, it no longer contributes to the score.

The model follows principles similar to structured rating systems used in other sports, such as the Elo system in chess and ranking frameworks seen in professional circuits like the ATP Tour.

While adapted for kendo’s tournament cycle, the core idea remains the same.
